When Garth first got his hands on this land, he jokingly called it “the Runch,” short for Run Down Ranch. Back then, the place was more weeds and wild critters than a cozy guest house, off grid glamping sites and scenic trails. It had potential, sure, but it was rough around the edges.
The vision was always clear, though: create a space where people could truly disconnect, slow down, and experience the raw beauty of the Rockies. Bit by bit, that “runch” turned into something pretty special, Copper Spur Ranch in Colorado. We poured ourselves into every detail, clearing overgrowth, leveling roads, building structures that feel like they’ve always belonged here. It wasn’t about making something fancy. It was about building something real.

We wanted our ranch accommodations to feel welcoming and warm without losing the rugged charm that makes this place what it is. Each space, whether it’s the main guest house, the Casita at Fish Rock, or the glamping tent is designed to give you a cozy retreat without pulling you out of the natural rhythm of the land.

The land here is wild, and we wanted to keep it that way, but we also knew it needed a little love to make it more accessible. We’ve spent years cutting, clearing, and maintaining private trails that wind through trees, across meadows, and up to sweeping overlooks.
We built these trails with our guests in mind, but also for our horses. You can explore Copper Spur Ranch on foot or on horseback, and either way, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into another world. These trails let you experience the landscape up close without ever seeing another soul.
Life off-grid comes with plenty of challenges. We’ve faced snowstorms that knocked out access, wild animals that kept us on our toes, and more than a few “learning moments.”
